It's disheartening to hear that we aren't viewed as users of our own products as well. I use CheckBook everyday as a developer and as a user. We aren't in the business of creating applications that we don't use ourselves. The reason we made the changes to transfer was to streamline entries so they maintain the same look as other entries, reduce the amount of clutter on the bar, and to go with more of a + or - approach. You are either adding or taking away from an account. With transfers acting more like regular entries, you get full control of entries such as being able to use splits and types. Entries are also easier to classify using categories and summaries that way.
By our use, transferring the old way was roughly equal to the new way. the old way, you clicked the transfer button, had to select whether it was to or from, and had to select the correct account it was going to, along with an amount. The new way is you click the deposit or debit button, select to or from account, select the appropriate account, and enter an amount. Both take 4 steps.
We are of course reviewing this process and will try to make it easier to understand. We strive to create applications that are easy to pick up and understand, but also contain many powerful features just under the surface so their presence doesn't confuse or drive away new users. Getting started with organizing your finances is a large enough and difficult task as it is.
Mike, If you are no longer satisfied with how CheckBook works for you, please email our customer service and we will issue a refund. I apologize for any confusion and appreciate all the feedback everyone has given.
