I'm looking for a replacement for Quicken, but one seemingly unique thing that Quicken offers is the ability to connect electronically to my bank and credit card companies and download the transactions directly into the correct account. I don't see that capability in Splasm CheckBook. Am I missing it?
Do I have to instead download all of the transactions from each institution to QIF files, save them, and then import each one into each account?
I'm not sure my credit card companies all support QIF export.
Also, when importing, Quicken can tell that when the payee was Stop&Shop that the category is "Groceries," and correctly saved me the time of having to assign the category for each transaction. Can CheckBook do that?
Thanks, I'm really looking for an acceptable alternative to Quicken, still haven't found it...

Just a thought, but I like CB for the fact that I don't import directly from bank. I want to enter my charges and checkbook expenses from the records in my hands, then I reconcile to what the bank has online; sometimes even daily. I don't want to take their data and accept it. When I tried that years ago with MSMoney, I had to clean-up and correct most of what was imported.
So, I like this type of workflow;
personal entry; manual confirmation/reconciliation.

Exactly how I use it. And yes, I reconcile daily.
