So, my subject is at the heart of this topic. Why did you all decide to have the user files saved in ~/Library/etc... files instead of in the User documents folder, thereby following the norm of everyone else?

Cheers.

Our original idea was to hide the accounts file, so the user would not have to manage, save, or worry about it. We use the Application support folder, because it is out of the way. This prevents CheckBook from losing track of the accounts file if it was accidentally moved or even deleted from the documents folder.

We do have a beta currently running through tests (CheckBook 2.2) which will allow the user to select their own location for the accounts file. This will open up the ability to save into a dropbox accessible location.

Been out and about for awhile... I think the ability to select where you save it would be a great feature... just set it in the Prefs menu, right?

Yep, You can find it in CheckBook's preferences under the Advanced tab.
