My wife & I share an iMac running 10.8.1 with separate User Accounts. We used to have a Quicken 2002 file under 10.6 in the shared folder and we could both access and make changes to the file. I also am treasurer of our condo association and keep the books in a separate file. My questions:

Which product should I buy? Family Pack?

What is the best way to import the Quicken info from an old iBook running 10.5 running Quicken 2002? The file goes back to '99 (no need to go back that far but maybe a year or two) with 2 savings, 2 checking and a credit card account. The condo books are a separate file with checking and savings.

Any help is greatly appreciated

The Family Pack license is more for multiple users in the same household who want to use the application independently. So, with you and your wife sharing a single Accounts file, you could get by with the single user license. Whatever the case, you'll just want to have CheckBook (Pro) available under both User accounts and then have the application save the Accounts data to a Shared folder from the first User Account and then Change the Accounts file save location to the same location from the second one and approve the access of the existing Accounts data there. For that, use the Change option available under the Advanced section of CheckBook (Pro)'s Preferences to choose the same folder for both Users.

When it comes to importing Quicken data, you'll just want to, first, export that data to the transfer format, QIF. For that, use the Export options available under Quicken's File menu. One you get the QIF onto your iMac, choose Import > QIF from CheckBook (Pro)'s File menu to get started bringing that information in.

No matter the limited data set being imported from a more recent time period, you'll be able to get everything balanced out using the Starting Balance of the Account being imported into—just set the value at whatever your balance was before the earliest transaction being exported from Quicken hit your Account.
