I imported my ancient Quicken account OK. Then I imported a different account for a special project. The New Account is listed in the accounts column and both share the same long list of categories.
How can I have a separate account that is really independent of my first account? And if I choose, how can I delete a lot of categories at once?

I've got a business account on a separate User login on my Mac. When I need to use that account, I just log out of my regular User ID and login on the business one.

As for deleting categories: go to Account:Edit all Accounts in the menu bar. There you will see all the categories from all accounts. Just click on the accounts you want to delete [shift-click or command-click to select more than one at a time] and, with these categories highlighted, just hit the delete symbol [the circle with the slash at the lower left of the category window].

Good luck!

I just wanted to add that if you're using the basic CheckBook, the Categories list is accessed under the Preferences for the application. So, just choose 'Preferences...' from the CheckBook menu and click on the Categories button, in that event.

Also, this is a roundabout way of keeping Accounts data separate but, using individual Account passwords can work for excluding entire Accounts from overall Balances and Summary information (for Pro's All Accounts feature). To give that a try, perhaps add a password to the least used Account, by choosing 'Edit Account...' from the Account menu and typing into the password fields. After that, choosing 'Lock Account...' from the Account menu keeps the Account's information separate from everything else.
