Can you tell me what the checkbox with the symbol in the header line, next to the reconcile checkbox is and how used?

It's the "Tax-Deductible" check. Click on the little icon that appears at the end of the headings (just above the vertical scroll bar), and you'll see ALL of the columns available. You can toggle each of them visible or invisible. In your case, "Tax-Deductible" is checked. Uncheck it, and it will vanish from your screen.


You can also rearrange the columns any way you wish by clicking and dragging a heading to a different location..
