Is there any way to see my total spending for each category in a month/year? In other words, I need to see monthly and yearly totals for spending in each category, such as food, gas, etc. that encompasses all the accounts added together. For instance, if I spent $100 on food with a credit card, $50 cash, and $25 with a check, the total would be $175. If this is not the program I need for maintaining a budget, can you recommend one? I have a MAC.
Thanks,
Deb

Yes, you can do just as you describe. If you are running CheckBook Pro, you can click on the 'All Accounts' section in the Accounts drawer, then click on the Summary tab at the bottom of the window. From the summary tab, you can create a new summary for the entire year with a monthly subtotal of categories. This will show the totals of your spending per category for each month and include entries from all of your accounts.

If you have not done so, you can try all of this yourself with the free trial of CheckBook Pro. You can find CheckBook Pro here: http://www.splasm.com/checkbookpro/downloads.html

This is the best way to find out if this is the solution you are looking for. Thanks for the question, Deb!

Thank you for your quick response. I downloaded the trial version for Checkbook. I assume that means I will need Checkbook Pro instead of Checkbook???

Yes, CheckBook Pro is the one that can run summaries that spans across all accounts. regular CheckBook lacks the All Account tools.
