I'm using CheckBook Pro instead of Quicken now because it's sooooooo much easier to make changes to multiple items in CBP wen trying to clean up records around tax time. But I'm missing a couple of features that would likely be a minor addition to CBP.
Basically, it doesn't seem possible to get an "entry details" summary with the entries grouped and labeled by category and subcategory. You just get a big list of entries with no category labels (except for split transactions, oddly) and no grouping by category. As a work-around, I'm just printing from the entries view, but the printed output lacks the complete category name for sub-categories so if you have "Automobile:Gasoline", you see only "Gasoline" in the output. In most cases you can infer the proper category, but names can overlap and cause confusion for the accountant to which you may be sending the information. Displaying the full subcategory name would be a good fix when printing entries.
So for summaries, it would be nice if the "entry details" summary would group entries by category and subcategory. This would give you an organized list of transactions to go with a "summary" summary that would easily let you find specific entries for any category and subcategory. Or, at least fix the subcategory labeling on the output from the entries view to make that output more comprehensible.
Also, when viewing a summary with the "summary style", the subcategory subtotals do not include a line for the category itself, when you happen to have entries classified with the category alone and not a subcategory. For example, if you have entries classified as "Automobile" and entries classified as "Automobile:Gasoline", the upper category total is correct but the lower list of subtotals will only have a subtotal for "Automobile:Gasoline" which makes the summary look incomplete. You may be looking at a total of $1000 above then scroll down to only see a subtotal of $500 below, and sit there wondering where the other $500 is. It seems you should add a subtotal for the items classified as the main category with no subcategory classification.
Thx, Brock
