Start by Repairing Permissions (Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility.. select and highlight the hard drive on the left, and then repair disk permissions) Also reset the Parameter RAM (PRAM) -- Restart while holding down command-option-P and R keys, let the chimes ring three times and let go.
If these don't work, I would try this: Throw out the application, download it again, and reinstall it, and then restart.
