I am having difficulty with backup of an account to my external hard drive. I back up my Check Book account and it appears as Accounts.plist. So far fine. Then I try to recreate the account from the backup and I receive the following error message:

"The document “Accounts.plist 12-26-10” could not be opened. CheckBook Pro cannot open files in the “Document” format."

How do I open the backed up file?

The plist file must be in the appropriate ~user/Library/Application Support/Checkbook file, and the app must be in your Applications folder. If you back up using SuperDuper or Time Machine, everything is in place properly, and when you clickon the app, it will open just fine.

I just click FILE then BACKUP ACCOUNTS then usually have a predefined folder (like CHECKBOOK PRO or whatever) on the external disk I am saving to then click SAVE at the bottom right of the screen. Job done.

The point is that the OP is trying to open CB by clicking on the plist file. Clicking on the plist doc will not open the app it's attached to.
