Hi! I've just bought Checkbook today and tried importing a QIF file which was exported from KMyMoney. All the transactions come up as deposits, although most of them were debits originally. Any help will be very gratefully received - I have 7 years worth of records that I really need to keep!

Thanks for registering CheckBook!

It appears that KMyMoney, at least by default, exports QIF with a new twist we haven't seen before: its negative amounts are in parentheses, like so: "(450.00)", instead of simply prefixed with a negative symbol, like so: "-450.00". This probably renders KMyMoney's default QIF export useless in the vast majority of personal finance applications, including Quicken, which are not "parenthesis-aware". We haven't tested KMyMoney directly but in a quick skim of the manual it looks like this may be customizable behavior.

No worries. We want CheckBook to be as compatible as possible "out of the box" so we've tweaked its QIF Import to look for parentheses at the beginning and end of each amount and convert the number in between to a negative. Look for a private email from us with a link to download the latest pre-release of CheckBook 1.7.2. If you try this build please let us know how it works for you. Thank you!

That worked a treat - thank you so much!
My only problem now is there's far too many red transactions on the screen and not enough green ones :-)

You can work around that...just change the Debits color in your CheckBook preferences...;)
