This is my second month using the product. I am trying to reconcile my account but the state balance is showing my ending balance from last month and my beginning balance from this month which is correct but unresolved balance is grayed out and still shows my ending balance from last month. Where do I enter my new ending balance? Or is there a step I need to do after my account is reconciled?

If I understand your question, you enter your new statement ending balance in the statement balance field; then check off all items which appear on your statement and the resolved balance should equal the amount in your statement balance field and the unreconciled field should be zero. At least that is how I've always done it and it has always worked. Hope this helps.

MSMoney was my method for 10+ years. I could not get my account balanced with CheckBook Pro without making hellacious adjustments.

Part of the problem was understanding the balances (finances are not my strong point). I think that if all items are reconciled and there are no outstanding (unchecked items) then the the Statement Balance from my bank should equal the Resolved balance, and the Unreconciled balance should equal the sum of the unchecked or outstanding items, but CB Pro shows it differently.

For example, say my Statement balance is $2000. If I reconcile, my CB Pro may show Resolved balance of $300, and an Unreconciled Balance of $1700. That is, I have $300 not yet reconciled. Wouldn't the $300 be he UNRECONCILED Balance, not the $1700 as in my CB Pro?

Or is my understanding of accounting backwards?

Perhaps this clarification is will be helpful to others and I hope someone will confirm that I've got it right:

After reconciling, the RESOLVED BALANCE should equal ZERO only if there are no outstanding purchases.

After reconciling, if the RESOLVED BALANCE is a positive number, it's the sum of the UNCHECKED ITEMS (the outstanding purchases).

In addition, as a "test", temporarily putting a check-mark at each of the outstanding purchases should make the RESOLVED BALANCE to ZERO.

Does this all seem correct?

The unreconciled balance should always equal zero when you enter a statement balance and finish reconciling. In your example, if you type in 2000 for your statement balance, after you finish going through your statement and entering anything that you missed from your statement your resolved total should also be 2000 (The total of all entries that have the resolved box checked.) That would give you an unreconciled balance of zero.

Sometimes when starting balances are entered in the middle of a statement period when you first create your account, entries that occurred before you started keeping track may have been entered that skews your starting balance. This should only happen when you first create the account and you used a starting balance that was not based on an existing statement. Once it is corrected, it should be fine from that point forward.

If your unreconciled total was not zero, but it was the same amount that you were off since you started your account then you may want to correct your starting balance value by adding or subtracting your unreconciled amount to your starting balance to make your unreconciled amount reach zero.

You can find and correct an account's starting balance by selecting that account and going to the Account menu at the top of the screen and selecting 'Edit Account..' option.
