I have browsed through these forums and through the help file, and I still don't understand the concept/purpose of folders and "smart folders". Can someone define them, explain how they differ and explain why I would want/need to use them?

I use smart folders to keep my account by year. You could use it for any thing you want to have a separate record of, like home improvements, contributions, alimony payments (ugh)... but the year separations work for me, and keep the main window uncluttered. Damned if I know what those dollar amounts represent, though, unless it's simply the difference between debits and credits for that particular year.
