My CheckBook file has transactions going back to 2005. CheckBook performance has always been very snappy with everything happening the instant I press a button or keyboard shortcut. A few days ago I lunched CheckBook Pro (2.3.1) and all of a sudden everything was taking forever and I am constantly seeing the system beachball. Seven to eight seconds between the time I press the debit button and the debit sheet slides down, the same with hiding the app, or moving back to the app from another.

I have tried reinstalling the app and trashing the preferences, re-started my machine many times (Core i7 8GB with SSD) but nothing has made any difference. I haven't installed any new software since performance was fine, and no other apps have slowed down.

I am using DropBox, and have that set up in Preferences/Advanced, I am not however using CheckBook on any other machines. To see if this was effecting performance I moved the data file back to User/Library/Application Support/Splasm this had no effect on performance.

The one thing that I have noticed is that the data file went from 2.9MB to 3.2MB in the course of a day or two with only a few transactions added. Any ideas?

Is it possible to somehow corrupt the data file?
Is there a way to rebuild this file?

Any help would be appreciated, as if this slow performance continues I will be forced (very unfortunately) to find an alternative.

Worked through this with Splasm support, they found that the description in a recent transaction contained a large amount of text that had been inadvertently pasted in. The description appeared blank, because it was proceeded by a large number of spaces. Select all the text, delete and the problem went away.

My advice; put a limit on the number of characters each field can hold, and make it a hard limit so that it is impossible to paste a large amount of data in inadvertently, then give a warning if someone tries to go over the limit. 256 characters should be more than enough, but that is Splasm's department.
