I imported accounts from another program using QIF format. Wanted some old entries so imported from the last year to current date. Used a starting balance for my import as my current account balance in my checkbook. All went well with the import but my first attempt at reconciliation isn't working. I don't understand where it got the figures it started with and by resolving all the old resolved entries leaves me with a rather large amount as unresolved so my attempt won't reconcile. In reading some of the other posts here I think my problem was the starting balance when I imported but I'm not sure and don't know how to fix it at this point. Any help would be appreciated before I get further behind. I imported several different checking accounts and sure the others will have the same issue so I haven't tried them yet.

It sounds like the Starting Balance you set is what is throwing your Reconcile off. Were you saying that, before you imported any Entries, you put in your current balance as the Starting Balance for your CheckBook account? If that is the case, then that value is being added to the value of all the Entries you imported in. You will want to set your Starting Balance as your real-world account balance just before the earliest Entry you are importing in hit the account. So, if you are importing all of last year starting with January 1, 2011, you will want to know your ending balance on December 31, 2010 for your Starting Balance.
