I got CheckBook because it was simple and I don't need to study to use it. At least that's what I thought. I'm simply trying to reconcile my bank statement. The statement has a starting balance and an ending balance. CheckBook has Statement Balance and Resolved Balance ... and Unreconciled. And Account Balance and Resolved Balance and Unresolved. The Statement Balance matches my statement's Beginning Balance. The Resolved Balance matches the statement's Ending Balance. I don't know what the Unreconciled is. I can't track it down. Since I don't know what it is, I can't do anything about it.

Should I give up on "simple" and go back to pen and paper?

I'm not exactly sure what you don't understand, but I sense it's just a matter of terminology.
•You manually enter the statement balance from your bank statement.
•The Resolved balance is the CB balance after the resolved items (the ones you have checked as cleared)
•Unreconciled is simply the amount you are out of balance, from debits or credits you haven't checked off as being cleared. If you have been diligent, this should be zero. If it's not zero, then you have to find the items you haven't marked off as being cleared.
•After you show a zero unreconciled balance, and are satisfied that all is in order, you can click the RECONCILE button and all reconciled items will be locked forever (so you can't accidentally change an item that has been closed.

I completely get what Tom is saying. I posted similar comment just now.
I want to recon according to bank statement, not what I THINK is my tally.
Refer to Quicken - it's done very easily. The program asks if you want to accept whatever the difference (+ or -), click 'yes' and the balance is now 0.

Please fix this! or tell me how to do it. Thanks

And you just want to take the bank's word for it without seeing if all your debits and credits have been applied? Not me, thank you.
