How do you point to a data file located in a hidden folder /usr/(user name/library/application support...? |

You should be able to use that sort of file path for accessing your Accounts data file, which resides in the hidden User Library on Lion or Mountain Lion. So that's "/Users/(your User name)/Library/Application Support/Splasm Software, Inc./CheckBook 2/Accounts.plist". Or, simply "~/Library/Application Support/Splasm Software, Inc./CheckBook 2/Accounts.plist". Alternately, the User Library can be navigated to from the Finder by holding down the Option while clicking on the Go menu at the top of the screen—this reveals a Library option in the drop-down list. |

Not quite the answer needed. When Checkbook can't find the data file and setting because they are located in a hidden file, how do I point Checkbook to that location. The Checkbook menu provided (see attached picture) doesn't seem to provide a means to find hidden files.

CheckBook should automatically point to that hidden location. So, if you're getting a message about the application not being able to locate an Accounts file there, its possible that something has been removed or altered at that location making the final selection of the proper location a bit difficult. Whatever the case, from where you are in the screenshot, you can navigate to the hidden location (if it's still intact) by, first, holding down the Shift and Command keys with one hand while hitting the letter G with the other hand. Then, the following path can be pasted into the Go-to-folder field that shows up: ~/Library/Application Support/Splasm Software, Inc./CheckBook 2 Upon hitting Go, the appropriate location will be selected. So, just hit Choose to wrap it all up. |
