First, I am not sure this is related to your software, but I installed the free upgrade last night and this problem surface the next morning.

Each time I try to open a work or excel file from my legitimate copy of Office for Mac (running fine for 6 months+) I get the following pop-up

'MICROSOFT OFFICE 2004 CANNOT START BECAUSE MICROSOFT OFFICE IS ALREADY IN USE:
An office program is being used by Joseph Brajkovich. Your installation exceeds the number of installations permitted by the
licensing agreement. Click more information to lear about Microsoft Office Licensing.'

As a result, I cannot open any word or excel files. Could this be related to the product upgrade????
I am using a IMAC with Tiger on an Intel processor.

Thank you,

Joseph

The problem reported above mysteriously disappeared when I restarted my IMAC later in the day.

Very strange. CheckBook (nor any other application) should cause this problem. Microsoft Office applications contain a piracy detection mechanism that broadcasts product IDs and access information to udp port 2222 on the local subnet. Other Office applications listen for these broadcasts and compare product IDs to their own to determine if there is a license violation. If a license violation has occurred the two machines decide which of the two applications must shut down, and shut down the offending application. A tcp port with a number greater than 3000 is opened to facilitate this communication.
