| Post subject: | Default Account File |
Hello, I opened Checkbook Pro today and found that the last entry shown was made in September. I know this isn't correct because I had just made an entry yesterday. So, somehow, the accounts file became corrupted. Anyway, I then loaded the backup file and found that this file is correct and up to date. But now, it looks like Checkbook Pro is using the backup file as the default file. Originally, I believe the working accounts.cbaccounts file was located in the Documents folder as this was the default file location. I would like to restore the backup file to the default file location. I could just copy the backup file over to the Documents folder but how do I force Checkbook Pro to use the default file location to load the accounts information? I don't see a Restore function available in Checkbook Pro. Thanks |

That's strange that a limited set of data disappeared like that from your original file. We can certainly explore further why that might have happened, if you're interested. With actual corruption, you'd receive error messages and no new data would be savable. Was that happening? No matter the case, accessing a Backup file was a great way to get going again quickly. Since Backups are now full documents, they do stay wherever they're opened up as there's no real default save location that CheckBook Pro constantly accesses a single data file from like with past versions—this makes not only maintaining multiple files possible, but also moving files around super easy. So, in your case, dragging the file you're dealing with to the Documents folder is all you have to do. You can then either open it by double-clicking or launch CheckBook Pro and it'll be brought up automatically (file moves are all tracked by your Mac so CheckBook Pro knows where to look). Alternately, if you're on Mountain Lion or later, you can use the 'Move To...' option under the File menu to move your file from within the application. |

I can't really explain what happened but my Mac has been acting little weird since I began running Mavericks. Like you suggested, I was able to move a copy of the backup file back over to the Documents folder. Everything seems to be working ok. Thanks again, Tony |

It's great to hear that you got most everything sorted out. Keep us posted on how things progress. |
