I'm attempting to understand the totals in the side bar and I have a negative number in this years smart folder. So why is it negative? I can't seem to find any information in the help about these totals. |

With Smart Folders or even the basic Folders, the total displayed next the folder name in the Accounts drawer is strictly the total of all Entries that show inside it. So, seeing a negative value for this year means the year's Debit total is higher than the Deposit total, which helps show that more money has been spent than deposited thus far. |

Thanks Allan! That does help. Can one keep track of charge cards in CBP? And when is the best time to move the 2014 entries to their own folder/ near the end of 2015 or when I do my taxes? |

It's good to hear that knowing more about the Smart Folder totaling helps! Now, it is indeed possible to keep track of a charge card by using a separate Account for it. For this, choose ‘New Account...’ from the Account menu at the top of the screen. Then, use a negative Starting Balance that matches what’s owed and, moving forward, charges should be treated as Debits while payments should be treated as Deposits. Regarding the moving of 2014 Entries over to a Folder, it's all up to you when you do that. If seeing the 2014 data separated-out would help during tax-time, then it's probably good to do it then. |
