Are there any updates or new features coming to this program anytime soon? I haven't seen or heard anything in quite some time.

I really don't want to switch back to Quicken, but some of the more advanced features are appealing.

If you are a developer or know anything please post an update or something, thanks.

We're not quite ready to share more details but I can assure you CheckBook 2.0 is well underway, targeted for release in just a few months. We'll have more information for everyone in the coming weeks.

Its been about two months since I posted this - just curious if there was any news on the new versions release or at least some insider news about it. Thanks.

I guess we kept the launch of Splasmata a little too quiet...There are a couple of screenshots there but that's really not representative of how much work has gone into 2.0 so far.

Things are really coming along. Lots of little requests are already completed, with much larger features still under wraps until we get closer to release. One hot and heavy topic we can let everyone in on is multiple currency support - a feature that's not essential for a lot of users but will definitely make life easier for the sizable group of folks who need it. You can now modify a list of currencies, complete with exchange rates and punctuation, and CheckBook will report your net worth in your base currency while displaying every amount in each Account with the appropriate symbols and separators.

I wish we could let everyone have a look at more of what we've done so far because it's quite functional, but we've committed to so many new features that we've felt the need to keep plugging away without taking the extra time to polish up a "preview" release. We haven't ruled it out entirely, though. Keep an eye on Splasmata for details...

Any more progress ?

Beta ?

The screenshots don't give much away, but I do hope there are now different colors for transfers in, and transfers out of accounts and vastly improved splits.

CheckBook 2.0 is coming, guys. We're really getting down to the nitty gritty and we're tentatively looking at sometime in September.

Here's one piece of news we were trying to save until a little bit later: There will be two versions of CheckBook 2.0, a basic version aimed at the current user who may only need a handful of the new features and refinements we've been working on, and a "pro" version aimed at those who need a bit more - like support for multiple currencies, global filters, folders, etc. Existing users will get discounted pricing on the basic version, and they will also receive discounted pricing and/or free upgrades to the pro version, depending on their original registration date. We've done most of the pro work, and we're in the process of separating the basic and pro versions from that single codebase - making it easier for the two to work from the same data files.

Let's see.
We (those who require multi-currency support, amongst other things) have been patiently waiting for a while.
I have read the announcements, but frankly multi-currency support is not something you piggyback onto an application easily - I understand what the developer writes.
However, your competitor is not the horrible Quicken, it is iBank, which implements many of the features CheckBook does not (and viceversa, of course), including multi-currency support.
iBank multi-currency support is particularly dumb, though, because:
1. it is not all-encompassing (charts are wrong, for instance, because it will draw charts taking the absolute values, not the amounts converted into the reference currency);
2. it does not show the currency symbol in the transaction(so it is error-prone);
3. conversions between currencies take place at unpredictable times (for securities, sometimes you don't want to update how much a security is worth in your reference currency, you want to know how much you paid THEN, not NOW, and then its total value NOW, not THEN).
Multi-currency support is difficult, and, as in all things, if you don't use it, you will not understand what is necessary and what is not...
I strongly disapprove the split into CheckBook "Lite" and CheckBook "Pro". These sorts of splits are usually just marketing ploys to squeeze more money from the user, but present obvious disadvantages for the developer who must support two different programs.
Take a census, Keith: if those who require multi-currency support are less than 30%, then drop us.
We'll switch to iBank and tell the developer how to modify it.
One think iBank does very well (except for the currency) is the customizable display of a transaction.
In Europe few people uses checks any more (Brits and French, the two worst banking systems), so I must always slide my columns in such a way that the "check #" column is not visible, as I do not care for check nos...
Sorry for the rant, but I wanted to provide a possible "non-US" view, always difficult to get across the Atlantic.

It's a little too late on the multiple currency support ;).

To be honest, we really think supporting our userbase with a multiple currencies feature is well worth it. Time will tell whether maintaining a basic vs. pro version of our application is a good decision but believe me, we had plenty of good reasons, not the least of which could be inferred by the fact that CheckBook 1.x continues to sell quite well. I'd say more but I don't want to give any of our bushy-tailed competitors any more bright-eyed ideas...

Well, I for one will probably stick around and I take a "Pro" licence.

Your UI is mostly very well thought and clean, you take into consideration user suggestions and make them work (e.g. the "sliding" scheduled transactions).

Let's do that before I retire, though (2.5 yrs ahead...).

I agree! My spread sheet that I used to compare / sort / print / search multiple accounts has now filled up and is USELESS!
I really need v2. Any news Keith or I shall have to find another programme p.d.q. as I use it for my business and I really need to be able to do the above from within the programme! :cry:
