I have four bank accounts which now have a zero balance and are stacked up in my Accounts drawer. Removing them will delete the account and all its information, which is NOT what I want to happen. I simply want to move them out of the drawer or otherwise archive those accounts so that I can open them up for future reference. How can I do this?

You could:

1. Export your account data as a Text file and then import that file into Excel or other Spreadsheet to view your data, and the delete your accounts in CheckBook.

2. Export in QIF format for later import and then delete the accounts.

3. Print your entries via the print dialog and save them as a PDF, and then backup your accounts via the File menu. You can then remove your accounts from CheckBook.

4. You could also do all of the above for safety sake ;)

AND, you could also just "Backup Accounts..." and rename and save the resulting account.plist file somewhere, and THEN clean out the files. This suggestion could be in addition to the ones shown above. Of course, you have to know how to work with the plist file to make it work (and not screw up your checkbook if you want to look at it later).

Hi Randy (and others):

Thanks for the quick response and for the solutions offered. I was hoping that there was an "archive account" feature in Checkbook Pro that I had not yet discovered. The solutions you offered are not exactly convenient or what I'd like to do for my personal workflow.

Perhaps an "Archive Account" feature can be added to a future upgrade to the already fine Checkbook application.

Thanks!
Michael

Perhaps you could simply set up "smart folders" for these accounts. This wouldn't change any of the main CB data, but it would put everything in its own folder for future reference, and you could access these accounts individually by opening the appropriate Smart Folder. I haven't looked into whether (or even how) this could be done, but it seems logical.

I've suggested that the team consider making Smart Folders lockable, so they couldn't be changed unless you wanted to do so. I still think that's a good idea.
