I have not used passwords, for each account, until I had to take my iMac in to have a recalled Seagate hard drive reinstalled. I figured I should create a password for each account as I did not want anyone looking at it.

Now I want to remove the headache of typing a password in. Can I change a password to no password? I went to preferences/security and hit enter with nothing filled in the password boxes, since I have been able to do that on other software. It did not work and I am still stuck with a password.

Can you help me on this?

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

Setting your password to nothing is a simple matter of erasing [blanking out] the previous password in the Security tab in preferences. Leaving those blank should work just fine. Be sure to blank it out [erase it] from both entry fields [Checkbook Password & Retype Password] so that nothing remains in either field.

Cheers!
Paul

It sounds like, thus far, you've just cleared your global Account password, which is what's set from the Security section of the Preferences. For individual Account passwords, you'll also want to clear out the password fields for each Account. To do that, select an Account and then choose 'Edit Account...' from the Account menu at the top of the screen. Then, remove the black dots from those 'Optional Password' and 'Re-type Password' fields.

Ah, that makes sense. I had forgotten that a pw could be set for each account, since I only use the global one. Thanks for the reminder Allan.

Cheers!
