I want to be able to use the Types 'Direct Debit' and 'Standing Order' for expense entries but cannot find how to do it.
There are also other types I would like to use for deposits.
How can this be done?

I'm away from my Mac right now so cannot give you the exact instructions. You can add and edit types through the "Edit Accounts" menu item. You can do this for each individual account, too.

When I get back to my machine, I'll write back and give better instructions.

Back to my computer quicker than I thought. Here's what you do:

Be sure you are in the account you want to change. Under "Account" Menu item, go to "Edit Account." In the box that open you will see some tabs at the top. Click on the "Types" tab. Here are all the types listed for that account. You can add or delete types using the + or ø button to the lower left of the types window. Add your type and indicate if it is for debit, deposit or both [you can also indicate if the type is a check]. There you have it! If you want these types used for other accounts, just open that account and go to "Edit Account" and in the types tab, click on the little curved arrow thingee and you can import types from another account. You should be good to go!
